MEDICAL STUDENT NEUROSURGERY TRAINING CAMP
Summary
The 2025 Medical Student Neurosurgery Training Camp will feature a hybrid format, including online preparatory learning materials and a single day of hands-on training held in-person at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and Gates Vascular Institute in Buffalo, NY, on February 8, 2025.
Online Sessions
The virtual component will be hosted via BSG Learn, our online learning platform tailored to meet the educational needs of students interested in clinical and pre-clinical neurosciences. Assigned material will include pre-reading, videos, and interactive activities to help students prepare for the in-person sessions. Therefore, it is highly encouraged that all students attending the in-person portion complete the virtual portion in advance. For those unable to join us in-person, access to the virtual component in BSG Learn will be made available.

Explore approaches to cranial surgery, including anatomical landmarks and positioning.

Demonstrate anterior cervical and posterior lumbar approaches.
Discuss positioning, radiologic correlation, and surgical techniques.

Placement of external ventricular drains and lumbar drains (30 minutes per group).
Suturing and wound closure techniques (30 minutes per group).
